Join our friends for a community event
Please join our friends for a celebration and reading of an important new book by the author Otilio Quintero, The Sign Catcher, just released by Arte Público Press at Father Greg Boyle’s Homeboy Industries.
The book covers Quintero’s real-life journey and evolution from his humble rural origins as a poor, at-risk youth in the California San Joaquin Valley, to his journey with the Mayan Indians. His brush with incarceration in the New Jersey prison system, to his later life achievements as a youth and community violence prevention activist engaged with historic social justice leaders, including United Farm Workers Co-Founder Dolores Huerta, legendary actor and human rights activist Harry Belafonte, and the late Native American peace activist and warrior Dennis Banks.
This community event will feature important Latinx celebrities including actress Elpidia Carrillo (“Predator” and “Nine Lives”), actor Jesse Borrego (“Blood In Blood Out” and “Vida”), actor Richard Cabral (“Mayans M.C.” and “Southland”) and actor Danny Trejo (“Spy Kids and Machete”). Henry A. J. Ramos, author, activist and senior fellow at The New School Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
