KANAKA LUNA-JENNINGS

Kanaka Luna-Jennings began as a trainee at Homeboy Industries in 2019, quickly rising to core staff first working in tattoo removal and then later, joining workforce development as a navigator retention specialist for the Department of Labor Growth Opportunity (DOL-GO) program, that focuses to empower marginalized 18–24-year-old young adults. As a member of API RISE, she thrives while promoting community, cultural healing, family reunification, and advocacy. Currently, Kanaka works at Grandview Foundation as a certified drug and alcohol counselor, helping others heal and recover from their disease of addiction. She treasures Homeboy Industries as a sanctuary of second chances, love, and acceptance and carries this with her in how she approaches her work every day.

We are excited and honored to announce this year’s musical guest: Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum singer/songwriter, and longtime friend of Homeboy Industries, Aloe Blacc. Known for major hits such as “I Need A Dollar”, “The Man”, and “Wake Me Up”, he pledged early in his career to use his music for positive social transformation. Aloe refers to his style of music as thematic, calling it “A.I.M.” which stands for affirmation, inspiration, and motivation.
